topGeneral Information

  • The portable ODH detector, in the CERN configuration, is designed to generate an alarm in case of lack of oxygen.
  • The portable ODH detector is compulsory for anyone who needs to access certain places of the LHC machine; see mapping.
  • The use of this detector is coupled with the use of a self-rescue mask.

topResponsability

  • Portable ODH detectors, dedicated to TE-EPC group, are under the responsibility of the TE-EPC secretariat, which will ensure their follow-up.
  • TE-EPC Secretariat mailbox

topRules of use in TE-EPC group

  • PRE-REQUISITE - each user must have followed:
  • The rules of use for the TE-EPC group are as follow:
    • ODH detectors are managed centrally by the TE-EPC secretariat (866/2-C04) and must remain on their charging base when they are not used for interventions.
    • Disinfect detectors before and after use; instructions.
    • Once the detector has been picked up at the secretariat, the name of the person will have to be registered on the whiteboard with the number of the ODH borrowed (number written on the back of the ODH).
    • At the end of an intervention, the portable ODH detector shall be put on its charging base at the secretariat to ensure the good condition of the battery for the next user.
    • Contrary to what is announced in the online course, if one of the symbols (Cal9,!, X or A1) appears on the device, the ODH detector shall be returned to the secretariat and the problem reported to one of the Secretaries who will take the necessary measures; see summary.

  • Recommendations:
    • Turn on the detector 10/15 minutes before using it so that the O2 sensor stabilizes and adapts to environmental conditions to avoid a false alarm.
    • Do not leave the detector in a vehicle.
    • Check that the value displayed after the switch-on is between 20% and 22%. If the value is outside this range, the detector shall be returned to the secretariat and the problem reported to one of the Secretaries who will take the necessary measures (calibration recommended)
